Reflexology
A system of massage used to relieve tension and treat illness, based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet that are linked to every part of the body.
Reflexology: An Overview
Reflexology is a holistic complementary therapy developed by Eunice Ingham in the 1930s, based on earlier theory by Dr. William Fitzgerald known as “Zone Therapy” which itself is based on ancient Chinese techniques.
The treatment is based on the theory that different points on the feet correspond to different areas of the body and by using pressure-point massage to relive the tension in those areas the flow of energy throughout the body can be restored.
In a modern medical setting Reflexology is used in a similar way to Acupuncture as a complimentary therapy alongside typical treatment paths and is reported to stimulate nerve function, boost circulation and stimulate the central nervous system, helping to provide relief from a wide range of symptoms.
Reflexology: The Appointment
A typical Reflexology appointment lasts around 30 minutes and we request that you attend in shorts or loose fitting trousers so that the lower limbs are easily accessible. The practitioner will take a full medical history and at this stage any specific issues can be discussed ensuring the appointment will be completely tailored to your needs.
The Reflexology technique is performed on the feet using a range of essential oils and massage creams specifically selected for your needs. If the treatment has been found to be beneficial regular sessions can be made.
